Award description

Digital Production, Writing and Design

This award is for聽the best writer or writers who have completed the Digital Production, Writing and Design program.聽

Born in Winnipeg in 1945, Shelagh Stanley's journalism career began as a reporter for the Kingston Whig-Standard in Ontario. She became news editor and city editor there before moving to Toronto to become the features editor for Canadian Living and later, the managing editor of Select Homes magazine.

After moving to Victoria, Shelagh worked briefly for the Times- Colonist and then went on to a successful career as a communications officer for various B.C. government ministries. Shelagh shared her love of journalism with Camosun students, teaching writing classes in the Applied Communication Program from 1994 to 2003. She reluctantly gave this up when she became too ill to teach. Shelagh passed away November 20, 2004.

Her mother, Margaret McDougall, was instrumental in creating this award to honour Shelagh's memory and encourage aspiring writers within the Digital Production, Writing and Design Program.

Nominations accepted January 1 - April 15.
