If you’re artistically and technologically minded, theInteractive Media Developer (IMD)program will nurture your programming skills and artistic vision to take on creative and technical challenges.

You'll learn the skills you need to take an idea or a problem and develop it from concept to production. You’ll get the opportunity to write professional documentation, design and implement stories or games, and apply your knowledge to create your own interactive experiences. Optional work terms will complement your coursework with added hands-on experience.

A double-credentialed program

The one-yearInteractive Media Developer Techniciancertificateprogram prepares you to work locally in the exciting world of software development. Possible careers include junior application or web developer, and junior graphic designer.

Continue your studies for another year, and you receive theInteractive Media Developer Technologistdiploma. Graduates work as web, software, game or mobile app developers, and are prepared for work in quality assurance, visual effects, product management or product design/user experience.

What to expect

This technical, rigorous program is composed of a one-year full-time certificate and a subsequent one-year diploma. Both credentials can be completed with an internship designation.

As a full-time student in the Interactive Media Developer program, you will spend 25-30 hours in class each week with approximately five hours of homework every day, including weekends. Before you begin this program you should be comfortable with basic computing skills, word processing, and file management.

Year 1

In your first year, you'll develop strong foundational skills and knowledge in programming and application development, computer logic and algorithms, 3D modelling and animation, and project management.

Year 2

As you continue your studies toward the Diploma in Interactive Media Developer, you’ll develop skills in artificial intelligence, design visualization, augmented reality, human-computer interaction, and project management.

As an Interactive Media Developer student, you have the option to supplement your classroom learning with the completion of one or two paid work terms. After successful completion of these optional work experiences, you'll qualify either the co-op or internship designation when you graduate.
