This year, the college鈥檚 School of Trades and Technology celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of technology and trades students and apprentices with individual awards provided through the generosity of community donors.
From welding to carpentry to mechanical engineering technology, the School serves over 2,500 students in more than 30 different trades and technology programs each year, who come to Camosun to develop technical skills and knowledge to help them achieve their dreams.

Architectural
Richard Hutchison
Pearl & Knud Boelt Trades Awards
To be awarded to students in their final year in Plumbing, Culinary, Carpentry, Auto Mechanics or Electrical as needed at AV资源.
Richard has been at or near the top of his classes over the four years of his schooling. Consistent in theory and practical work, Richard demonstrated a craftsman-like dedication to his studies. At times very serious, in his level 4 class he emerged as a quiet leader in a very good class, working with a particular couple of students who needed help. Richard鈥檚 dedication to carpentry and school, in particular, was admirable鈥ven coming by taxi at considerable expense when his usual transportation method failed him. We wish Richard all the best as he continues his journey in carpentry. The industry could use more people with the dedication and skill he has shown.
Ken Hillaire Pelkey
TEKTEKSEN Indigenous People in Trades Training Award
Awarded to a student who has completed a program through IPTT (Indigenous People in Trades Training) at AV资源, with a preference given to a WSANEC student.
Ken is the embodiment of the idea that persistence will result in reward. Ken started his apprenticeship pre-Harmonization and was 7 years start to finish school. For him to come back after several years away from school and succeed with confidence is remarkable and a great example of what can be achieved through commitment and hard work.
Jesse Gisborne
Carpentry Foundation Program Award
Awarded to the graduating student in the Carpentry Foundation Program with the highest overall combined theory and practical marks.
Jesse is a natural leader. With everything from packing lumber, to making sure that he and others were in the right place at the right time, to taking detailed notes, to keeping the whole team up to speed, Jesse was in the centre of the action. He never hesitated to take on challenging tasks and helped others to be successful as well. In addition to all of this, he scored the highest marks overall for the program this year. Great job, Jesse!
Aaron Dewhurst
Retired Carpentry Instructor Award
For a student in the Carpentry program with outstanding technical skills.
Aaron displayed excellent technical skills by finishing his projects in a very timely, safe and accurate way which is what we are always looking for.
Alyssa Burrows
Pat Lintaman Design Ltd. Award in Carpentry
Awarded to a student who is pursuing the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) associate exams. The award covers the cost of the preparation materials and the exam fee for the award recipient.
Alyssa is a conscientious and thoughtful carpenter. She is very capable in the practical realm and has shown keen interest in how and why buildings function, and how we can improve materials and processes to achieve greater efficiency. This applies during construction and during the life of the building, both essential to reducing our effect on the planet.

Sorensen Family Memorial Award in Building Construction Trades Architectural
For Students achieving satisfactory marks in the learning of Architectural Trades.
Ryan has shown incredible resiliency while completing his apprenticeship. While there were times when Ryan was challenged by the course, he never gave up, and had a great attitude and work ethic.

The George & Elsie Farmer 1st Year Legacy Award
Best all-around 1st-year carpentry apprentice.
Alison rocks harder than Pantera. She is an exceptional student and a hard worker. She came early, stayed late, worked with other students for their mutual benefit, and consistently and significantly contributed in class and in the shop.

The George & Elsie Farmer 2nd Year Legacy Award
Best all-around 2nd-year carpentry apprentice.
Nick is a great student in the classroom and the shop. Diligent, conscientious and good-natured, Nick scored extremely well on tests and projects in addition to participating in class and helping others. Excellent work.
Ryan Campbell
The George & Elsie Farmer 3rd Year Legacy Award
Best all-around 3rd-year carpentry apprentice.
Ryan is a mature student who brought a positive attitude to class and always strives to do well on all projects. He demonstrated excellent team working skills, safety in the shop, and set a high standard for himself regarding his grades.
Dakota Yakimovich
The George & Elsie Farmer 4th Year Legacy Award
Best all-around 4th-year carpentry apprentice.
Dakota is a student that anyone would want in their classroom. He was very diligent with all of his work which was completed to a very high standard - which includes both practical and theory. He was always very willing to help out the other students in class if they were struggling. Dakota will be very successful in this trade.
Julie Carmichael
The Tom Newton Memorial Award
Awarded to a student who made time to help others succeed.
Julie was a capable student in her own right but was most notable for the way she contributed to the success of others. She worked directly and extensively with one of her classmates and her efforts were pivotal to his success. She was a positive role model and raised the level of collaboration and morale for the whole class.
Simon Fogarty
The John Scheeren Building Excellence Carpentry Award
Provide an award to a Carpentry student who has demonstrated building excellence and workmanship in the applied portions of their studies in their trade.
Simon is an all-around good carpenter with exceptional practical skills. His instructor commented that his second-year finished stair project was "hands-down, the best I've ever seen." Simon has great potential and we look forward to hearing about his future successes.
Ken Hillaire-Pelkey
Trades Training - Architectural Trades Award
Awarded to a AV资源 student in the Architectural Trades Program. The recipient has demonstrated commitment to their program or trade with a positive attitude while maintaining good academic standing.
This award illustrates Ken鈥檚 commitment to his studies and his trade as well as his determination to maintain a good academic standing.
Paul Bucci
Sidney Rotary Trades Foundation Award
Awarded to a Foundation Trades student who has demonstrated leadership, and community involvement and has shown they are a good citizen in our community.
Paul demonstrated excellent leadership qualities while attending the Carpentry Foundation Program and did a great job when assigned as lead hand for several of the projects. Paul has been involved in competitive rowing within our community as both athlete and coach.
Laurence Welch
Vintage Woodworks Award
To recognize the top student in the Fine Furniture/Joinery Program.
Laurence came into the program with a background in trades and has worked hard to continually refine his skills. He sets exceptionally high standards for his work, which has pushed him to create pieces that are at a professional level. While Laurence didn鈥檛 have a background in design, he has applied himself to this area as it was something he wanted to learn. He has come far since the beginning of the program, exemplifying that hard work and dedication are necessary to learning this craft. Laurence鈥檚 academic work is also completed to a high standard, his informative and creative research paper led to the instructor starting a 鈥榞reatest hits鈥 folder of student work. In addition to high achievement in both practical and theory work, Laurence is always helping other students, sharing his knowledge and helping to create a collaborative space in the shop.
Danielle Roberts
Victoria Truth Centre Trades Award
Awarded to a female student who has demonstrated a keen interest in their studies, a passion for their trade, and shows kindness and helpfulness to their peers. The student is hardworking and shows determination in applying themselves to their program.
In addition to focusing on the finishing aspect of her project work throughout the program, Danielle earned the top mark in the class for the finish samples project.

Columbia Industrial Supplies Award
To recognize a student who displays an interest in wood finishing, and completes a wood finishing project using a variety of techniques to a high standard.
Danielle can鈥檛 help but approach every project with an abundance of creative energy. She has incorporated novel finishes into many of her projects and is always experimenting with new ways of doing things. She comes up with techniques that are interesting and out of the ordinary.
Dustin Hawthorne
Pat Lintaman Design Ltd. Award in Fine Furniture
Awarded to the Fine Furniture Student who shows strength in the design component of the course, and has worked to incorporate local, sustainable materials and environmentally friendly finishing products into their work.
Dustin鈥檚 design work in the program has been exceptional. He took every design project and produced original, creative and surprising work at every turn. The body of work exhibits cohesiveness and a style that is easily identifiable as his. All students had the option of choosing a creative project as an alternative to writing a research paper; Dustin created an original song and zine based on his subject; this approach exemplifies his creative personality. His projects usually stray outside the boundaries of furniture making into other mediums, incorporating found objects and original art. He often experiments with wood finishing and surface texture techniques in his work.
Architectural Horticulture
Michael Kopp
BC Council of Garden Clubs Award
The award recipient must be a Canadian citizen residing in BC who has demonstrated interest and ability in the field of horticulture. The award recipient must also be a full-time student enrolled in the horticulture program at AV资源.
Michael was a quiet dedicated student throughout the entire听school year- achieving a high grade of 96%. He was consistently a hard worker and expressed interest and curiosity in all the various courses and offsite field trips. His attention to detail and genuine interest in all things plant related was evident to the entire class and thus he served as an excellent role model for the class. Michael will certainly succeed in whichever area of Horticulture he follows and is currently employed as a gardener by the Island Health Authority. Thank you Michael for your hard work and leadership!
Claire Fothergill
Victoria Horticultural Society - Jill Stewart Bowen Scholarship
Awarded to a student in the Horticulture Technician Program with a high academic standing who demonstrates leadership, good attitude and ability to succeed in the industry, with preference to students intending to continue their education.
Claire comes from a family of gardeners and quite simply is natural. Not only did she excel at hard physical work but Claire achieved the highest overall average of 97%. Claire led by example and was also an excellent role model for the entire group. Even out of class, the world of gardening took over as she helped clients and worked on invasive species removal and restoration of native plant habitats. The overall work ethic that Claire exhibited was impressive and she is sure to succeed in her career path. Currently, she is working with a local landscape and maintenance company and we wish her well.
Danielle Hannan
Saanich Fruit Growers Association Award Horticultural Studies
To celebrate the achievements of a student with high academic standing and a genuine passion for growing food. Priority will be given to a student with a special interest in fruit growing.
It's hard to think of our program this year without mentioning the names Claire and Danni in the same sentence. They both complimented each other and encouraged each other - and the class so well. Danni came to the program with a food-growing background and her passion is for fruits听and听vegetables. This was very evident but she took everything plant related as important and useful (although turfgrass may have been the one exception). Danni's wisdom and extensive knowledge of the natural world was the common thread this past year that helped connect many of the subjects and experiences for all of us. Danni is currently working in landscape and maintenance but is also pursuing a goal of organic food production and living lightly off the land on a Gulf Island farm. She was an inspirational student. Thank you Danni.

Trades Competitors Award
Awarded to a Trades student for their outstanding performance in a Trades Competition and recognizing the student's excellent achievement in a Provincial, National or International competition in their chosen trade.
Mariah and Craig are gold medal winners after competing against horticulture students from across the province in the Skill BC competition. Well done Mariah and Craig!

CFUW Victoria Trades Anniversary Award
The purpose of this Fund is to recognize women who are studying in one of the following non-traditional Trade programs: Carpentry, Electrical, Metal and Mechanical, Plumbing/Pipe Fitting/Refrigeration. The recipient shall be a mature female student who has completed the Foundation or first year of an Apprenticeship program, is continuing her studies and training at Camosun, has a proven passion for her chosen Trades career and is an inspiration to fellow students.

The purpose of this gift is to provide an award to one or more trades students with all-around good performance in the Electrical or Welding Foundation programs.

United Engineering Award of Excellence in Metal Fabrication
For a metal fabrication apprentice who has demonstrated the greatest initiative to succeed in the trade.
Julian works hard to maintain very high grades and is dedicated to his trade. He earned top grades in his class and Red Seal exam.

Sheet Metal Workers - Local 276 Award Foundation Program Award
Presented to the top overall student in the Sheet Metal Foundation Program.
Lusian displayed high attention to detail in the shop and a natural ability to learn and retain information in the classroom. He was always working hard.
Jordan Oickle
Ken MacDonald Sheet Metal Local 276 Apprenticeship Memorial Award
Presented to the student with the highest overall marks in the 4th year of Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Training.
Jordan completed level 4 with 95% overall. He was always seeking additional information to increase his understanding of concepts. Congratulations Jordan.
Graydon Schrank
The Doug Wellwood Memorial Automotive Award
To provide an award to a AV资源 Automotive student who demonstrates excellent work and either enrolls in further courses leading to employment in the automotive repair sector or obtains an apprenticeship in the automotive repair sector. Preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated interest in the repair or restoration of historic vehicles. The award recipient will be invited to attend a meeting of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club.
Graydon successfully completed Level 3 of his apprenticeship training in December 2022. With absolute engagement and a desire to learn all he could, Grayson's thoughtful questions and classroom participation enhanced the learning environment for his entire cohort. Graydon is also a serious car enthusiast and well deserving of this award.
Joshua Edwards
Ed Coates Memorial Foundation Apprentice Award
To provide an award to an apprentice student in the Automotive Service Technician program who shows high academic achievement, strong leadership skills, and a positive attitude.
Josh completed the second-year apprentice program in November 2022 with an outstanding score of 95%. Josh was always cheerful and his classroom contributions were well thought out and often led the way for insightful discussion. His careful evaluation of how automotive systems function is a rare attribute that is highly sought after to troubleshoot the advanced systems found in today鈥檚 vehicles. For these reasons, we feel Josh is a deserving recipient of the Ed Coates award. Well done Josh!

To recognize a Heavy Duty Mechanic Foundation student who demonstrates attention to safety, shows interest in sustainability, displays strong teamwork, is helpful and polite, demonstrates integrity and has shown community involvement.
Reuben was a pleasure to teach; always respectful and hardworking. He showed a high skill level in the shop and above-average grades in the theory. We look forward to having him back to continue his apprenticeship

To recognize a Heavy Duty Mechanic Foundation student who demonstrates attention to safety, shows interest in sustainability, displays strong teamwork, is helpful and polite, demonstrates integrity and has shown community involvement.
Given that she has also successfully completed Automotive, Electrical, and Carpentry Foundations, I would suggest that these achievements solidify Skyler as an emerging leader in Women in Trades.
Jesse Neufeld
Victoria Midas Award
To recognize a mature Automotive Technician apprentice that has demonstrated enthusiasm and determination to achieve a high level of competence as an automotive service technician. Note: For this award, mature student is defined as over the age of 28.
Jesse started the last stretch of his Red-seal Journey at the beginning of 2023. Being in the industry longer than the average technician allowed Jesse to really understand what it takes to become a great one. Achieving a grade of distinction at 96% shows the dedication Jesse has towards his career as an Automotive Technician. Any repair facility would be lucky to have this technician working for them.

Schnitzer Welding Apprenticeship Award
Presented to the top Welding Apprentice student.
Kyle showed a high level of skill, was always on time, was eager to learn and was helpful to both instructors and students. He was kind, respectful and hardworking. Kyle was willing to go the extra mile to get the best results for himself.

Early Ford V8 Club Award
For a deserving student in the Automotive Technician Program.
Faris completed the Automotive Foundation program in March 2022, with an overall grade of 91%, continually demonstrating a high level of dedication to learning and succeeding in the program. His work ethic was very good; completing assigned tasks competently while continually developing his skills and knowledge. Faris is a very deserving recipient of the Early Ford V8 Club Award.

Tannaar Reeves Sheet Metal Memorial Award
Presented to the top overall student in the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program who has shown the most improvement through hard work, innovation and perseverance.
Cam was one of the only students who spent time with his instructor nearly every day going over practice IP questions, in preparation for the exam. He made absolutely sure that if there was something he didn鈥檛 understand, that he did by the end of the conversations. Great job Cam! You deserve it!

Vintage Car Club of Canada, Victoria Chapter, R. Lawrence Memorial Award
To recognize one student who has achieved high theory and practical marks in the Automotive Technician Foundation or Apprenticeship Program.
Niko came to the automotive foundation program with a strong automotive background. His goal was to build on those skills and learn as much as possible about the trade. In addition to successfully completing the ASTF program, Niko鈥檚 passion for classic cars and trucks led him to completely rebuild his Ford 289 V8 for his old F-150. This endeavour took patience, knowledge and determination. We believe these qualities in a student make Niko a deserving candidate for the Robert Lawrence - Vintage Car Club award. Congratulations Niko!

Wayne Blackwell Memorial Award
To perpetuate the ideals that Wayne Blackwell exemplified by providing encouragement and recognition to Automotive Entry Level students who have shown the most improvement through their hard work and perseverance. Awarded to one or more students.
Julio completed the 7-month-long Foundation program in March 2023. With a focus on making a career change, Julio continually demonstrates a high level of dedication to learning and succeeding in the program. His focused yet relaxed manner was a welcome presence in the shop and he completed assigned tasks competently while continually developing his skills and knowledge. His strong work ethic and new skills have helped him to transition into a career in automotive service for the Carson Group.
Hugh Olcen
Wayne Blackwell Memorial Award
To perpetuate the ideals that Wayne Blackwell exemplified by providing encouragement and recognition to Automotive Entry Level students who have shown the most improvement through their hard work and perseverance. Awarded to one or more students.
Hugh started the Automotive Service Technician Foundation Program in Aug of 2022 and brought with him knowledge of the industry. Expanding his abilities, Hugh supported other students and always offered to help the instructors with setting up demonstrations. Completing the program with a final grade of over 90% shows that this student is dedicated and focused. His positive work experience report from Jet Stream Custom Auto in Sidney certainly confirmed his abilities as an upcoming technician. We are looking forward to seeing Hugh continue his journey into the automotive industry. All of the instructors felt that Hugh is a very deserving recipient of the Wayne Blackwell Memorial Award.
Megan Little

To perpetuate the ideals that Wayne Blackwell exemplified by providing encouragement and recognition to Automotive Entry Level students who have shown the most improvement through their hard work and perseverance. Awarded to one or more students.
Megan started the Automotive Foundation Program in the Winter of 2022. She was one of our most inquisitive students; always asking well-articulated questions. Megan was always the first to help others when they ran into difficulties in the shop while still learning the trade herself. With her determination, she is now sharing her energy and enthusiasm working at Coachwerks Restorations. For these reasons, we are proud to present Megan with this award.
Christopher Brizzi

To perpetuate the ideals that Wayne Blackwell exemplified by providing encouragement and recognition to Automotive Entry Level students who have shown the most improvement through their hard work and perseverance. Awarded to one or more students.
Chris started the Automotive Foundation class in the summer of 2022. He started out as a quiet student but he was always taking notes, and in his own way, slowly progressed through the program. Seven months later, we see a knowledgeable young student that is able to take on the challenges that a level 1 apprentice would be requested to do. We feel that Chris has made the biggest strides on his way to an automotive career. The instructors all agree that he is very deserving of this award.

Awarded to a AV资源 student in the Metal Trades Programs. The recipient has demonstrated commitment to their program or trade with a positive attitude while maintaining good academic standing.
Greg was a great student in so many ways; attendance, interpersonal skills, dedication, grades. He is an asset to the sheet metal industry and well deserving of this award!
Andrew Bonnar
Accord Metal Fabrication Award of Excellence
Awarded to the foundation student best displaying competent metal fabrication skills combined with an exemplary ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
Andrew always works hard, asks the right questions and always does the extras while maintaining an above-class grade average in theory, shop and overall.
Erin Toohey
Arthur John Jones Memorial Award
Awarded to one or more students in the Automotive Technician Foundation or Apprenticeship Program. Also open to students in the Heavy Mechanical program who demonstrates great attitude, ability and attendance.
Erin completed Level 2 of her apprenticeship training in November 2022 with perfect attendance. To help with her studies during the course, she developed a method using online flashcards and an online interactive learning platform called Kahoot. Erin recognized the benefits of this and created a review Kahoot for her classmates to prepare for the final exam of her AST 2 class. This was over and above anything we as instructors have ever seen and clearly demonstrates Erin鈥檚 character as a leader and team player. She is a fine automotive student, able to grasp concepts in the classroom and apply them in the shop, and certainly deserving of this award.
Mujong Kim
Arthur John Jones Memorial Award
Awarded to one or more students in the Automotive Technician Foundation or Apprenticeship Program. Also open to students in the Heavy Mechanical program who demonstrates great attitude, ability and attendance.
MuJong completed Level 4 of his apprentice training with high marks and perfect attendance in 2022. Throughout his years at Camosun, MuJong demonstrated a keen desire to learn to become a skilled technician. His level of focus in the final year of his Red-Seal training was excellent, and the skills he demonstrated in the shop reinforced the level of understanding and ability he has achieved. It has been great to see MuJong's knowledge and abilities grow over the years, and to see him become a top technician for Three Point Motors Mercedes.
Walker Moore

Awarded to one or more students in the Automotive Technician Foundation or Apprenticeship Program. Also open to students in the Heavy Mechanical program who demonstrates great attitude, ability and attendance.
Walker was a pleasure to teach. He worked hard, was respectful and maintained above-average grades in theory. We look forward to him coming back and finishing his apprenticeship.
Naomi Lovan

Naomi was a pleasure to teach; she was well organized, prepared for class, asked many questions and achieved above-average grades in the theory.

Rodger Hargreaves Memorial Award
The Rodger Hargreaves Memorial Award will be presented to an outstanding SIP student who successfully completes level 2 training.
Zac came into the program through the South Island Partnership Dual-credit High-School program and demonstrated a level of maturity beyond his years. His patience and excellent ability to understand technical concepts were noticeable along with his dedication to his studies.

Rebecca Bos
Open Shop Award
Awarded to a student with all-around good performance in the Plumbing Foundation programs.
Rebecca has been a delight to have in our Pipe Trades Foundation program. She is constantly the first to arrive and last to leave the classroom, and regularly takes the initiative to help others with extra tasks. Andy has demonstrated a high level of self-directed participation and accountability in his E-pprentice cook training. He has successfully completed level 1 distance learning through E-pprentice and is currently finishing his level 2 workplace entry online. He has endured multiple managerial changes in his learning environment at work. His resilience to complete his training and do what is necessary is duly noted. As a distance learner, he has taken ownership of his learning and has demonstrated his willingness to push through adverse conditions. Roman鈥檚 passion for the Culinary Arts was clear from day one. He embraces his Ukrainian heritage and is eager to share the cuisine of his culture with both instructors and students. His hard work, constant effort to improve and strive for excellence was a trait that others tried to mirror. Roman is currently honing his culinary skills at a local restaurant and catering company in Langford, where he works alongside other current AV资源 Culinary students. Additionally, Roman excelled in competition at the Skills Canada competitions at the regional and provincial levels. He was a leader by example, showing up early and supporting teammates each school day.

Presented to an apprentice who completed the Professional Cook Level 1 who is registered for the Professional Cook Level 2 Program, who is very committed to the profession, who has shown a natural ability to work well with others and whose written, practical and creative work is exemplary.
Chase didn't always know he wanted to cook but he knew he loved to eat. It wasn't until he got a job at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel that he knew he wanted to cook for a career. He fell in love with the environment, the pace and the teamwork in the kitchen. Culinary Arts was also a career where he felt he could help people by making someone smile creating a comfortable environment and slowing people down so that they can think about nothing except the food they were about to eat. As an apprentice, Chase was always prepared; he brought ideas and quality of finished work not often seen in level one apprentice. As a top student both academically and in the kitchen other students gravitated to Chase as a culinary mentor.

Awarded to an apprentice who has completed the Professional Cook 1 Apprenticeship Program with demonstrated academic excellence, superior practical skills and strong leadership skills.
Robert has successfully completed level 1 and subsequently completed level 2 and is now starting level 3 in back-to-back enrolment. Robert has been working in camps for quite a few years and was offered an opportunity to get certified at Camosun with the online workplace entry through E-pprentice by his employer compass Canada. He has demonstrated exceptional motivation and commitment to learning with E-pprentice. Working 10 days on and 10 days off, his commitment never wavered over the 6 months per level. Robert often sent in pictures of his required practical activities for Instructor feedback when his sponsor was unavailable to provide on-site feedback. When it came time for assessments he flew out to Victoria from St Johns, Newfoundland for 2 days, completed his practical and written assessments and flew back. What commitment!! He is an outstanding example of a self-directed on-line learner. Robert has set himself up very well for a great career. Well done!

Roger received an A+ on his municipal design project last fall and his project group completed a very challenging landfill design for their Capstone project. Roger will be applying his significant AutoDesk Civil 3D skills to his new job at McElhanney.

The recipient must have achieved a solid academic record and contributed in a positive way to campus life and/or the community at large.
When staff and students were asked who in the program contributed to campus life in a positive way, everyone mentioned Sarah. She works hard and yet never lets the workload of a stressful program bring her down. She has been a delight to have in our classrooms for the past 16 months.

Presented to a student or graduate in the ASTTBC-accredited Civil Engineering Technology Program at AV资源. The recipient must have achieved a C+ average; exhibited extra effort and interest; exhibited financial need.
Our 2-year program is challenging and can be a grind for some students. Anthony embraced this challenge and never gave up. He worked so hard, even when it seemed impossible. Always keeping a good attitude, Anthony put in extra effort to succeed. His capstone team produced one of the best projects we've ever had. It was a team effort and Anthony was a critical member of the team. Well done Anthony.

Civil Engineering Technology Co-op Award
Awarded to recognize an outstanding Civil Engineering Technology Co-op student who has demonstrated strong commitment and a positive attitude towards Co-op with active participation in the Co-op process, and received very good or outstanding on Co-op part.
Last summer Nolan did a co-op with the Town of View Royal working in their Engineering Department. Nolan did field inspections, assessed infrastructure, and supported the engineering department. Nolan's supervisor complimented him and noted that he was "one of the best Co-ops they have ever had."

Awarded to a 1st year Civil Engineering Technology student who has demonstrated academic competence and enthusiasm with an exceptional aptitude and superior potential for a career in the Civil Engineering profession.
Liam is eager to learn as much as he can as part of the Civil Engineering Technology program. He is often found supporting his peers and fully embracing all of his coursework. Liam achieved top marks in his first year of Civil Engineering Technology. There's no doubt that he will be successful in his second year and his career to follow.

To recognize a Civil Engineering Technology student who is interested in pursuing a career in construction and has successfully completed their first year.
Awooch is following his dream of pursuing a Civil Engineering career by completing his first year with top grades. Parkinson Family Award Endowment Fund
To support an Award, to be distributed annually to a Civil Engineering Technology student who is achieving satisfactory grades while working part-time, participating in some form of organized sport and also contributing to the College as a volunteer in some capacity.
During the Civil Tech program, Mike ran his own pressure washing business while playing Junior B lacrosse with the Saanich Express; this involved additional volunteer time with the team. He is currently completing a co-op work term at JE Anderson and Associates and plans to continue his education as part of the Civil Engineering Bridge to UVIC.

"Ruben is a quiet student but, like Clark Kent, he has hidden superpowers. At the culmination of an extremely demanding Electrical Engineering Technology program, involving nearly 30 courses both theoretical and practical, Ruben has managed to achieve an 8.96 GPA. While completing all of his own work during a tough capstone semester to an excellent standard, Ruben also helped troubleshoot printed circuit boards for classmates in other project groups. Away from Camosun, Ruben manages to find time to volunteer activities in the local powerlifting community, frequently helping to organize competitions and training events, as well as competing himself. To recognize an Indigenous Student who has successfully completed the Bridge Watch Rating Program. Preference will be given to a WS脕NEC student who is also a woman.
Weyla Chipps-Roy from Scia鈥檔ew (chee-ah-new) Beecher Bay was one of our students in the Bridge Watch Rating Program. She was keen to learn and participate in the marine industry. She is currently an Ordinary Sailor with Horizon Maritime/Kotug Canada. She plans to achieve her Watchkeeping Mates certificate over the next couple of years while she continues with deck services.听听She is excited to continue expanding on her newfound love of the Marine industry and is very proud to be a part of protecting the oceans and traditional food sources for our island communities and future generations
Dennis Roberts
Watchkeeping Mate Award of Excellence
Presented to the Watchkeeping Mate Student with the highest aggregate marks on the Transport Canada Examinations.
Dennis has been working at sea for 15 years. He has worked for the Canadian Coast Guard, had a Navy deployment as a sea cadet, and worked on many tall ships. He is currently working at Victoria Tug and Barge Company as a deckhand. Dennis has been taking nautical courses at Camosun over the past 2 years. He was a top student in his class and a very positive person to be around. Dennis has always dreamed of becoming a Navigation Officer and one day hopes to become a Master Mariner.
Astrid Whiting
Victoria Esquimalt Harbour Society Featherby Award
The purpose of this fund is to recognize the achievements of students completing Camosun's Trades Skills Foundation Core Program in Marine Skills. It will be awarded each year to a student who demonstrates outstanding potential for a career in marine trades.
Astrid Whiting made a bold career shift from working in Government to working in the marine industry. She started by taking Camosun鈥檚 Bridge Watch Rating course where she was top of her class. She has since completed and excelled in many other Nautical courses at Camosun and is now poised to be a 60t Master. Astrid is definitely 鈥渁n island girl鈥 and loves the bountiful sea life we have all around us. Astrid hopes to work in the ecotourism industry to share and educate others about our whales and West Coast wildlife.

To recognize deserving students studying in the Professional Studies and Industry Training program, specifically in the Nautical & Marine training program.
Numa was a member of our Bridge Watch Rating Program and was the top student in her class. During class, she was focused, asked excellent questions and participated well in class discussions. She is a positive and upbeat person in the classroom and works well independently and with her classmates. She shows great promise for a great future within the marine industry. She has currently applied for the Canadian Coastguard as a Deckhand 鈥 we wish her well in all of her future pursuits.
