Victoria, B.C. - Camosun is proud to announce that the One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education Inc. has been named the 2020 AV资源 Co-op and Internship Employer of the Year. One Voice is an organization focused on process optimization excellence, community engagement, ethics and education, and is structured as a brain trust with multiple lines of business. One Voice first started working with Camosun听in 2020 and has already hired six students across multiple program areas.

鈥淭he COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of many other opportunities for students, and it was truly inspiring to see One Voice 鈥 a relatively new employer 鈥 embrace work-integrated learning as much as they did,鈥 says Claudia Sperling, Director of Applied Learning, Co-operative Education and Career Services at Camosun.

Over the Summer 2020 term (May-August), One Voice posted several work term positions with Camosun, including a Digital Media Assistant, a Digital Communications and Marketing Assistant, an Executive Management Assistant and a Website Platform Builder.

One Voice ultimately hired four Camosun students from a variety of programs across the School of Arts & Science, the School of Trades and Technology, and the School of Business. One Voice also hired an additional two students for the Fall 2020 term (September-December). The students are all uniquely involved in the unveiling of a project at One Voice called the The Myriad Experience 鈩, a next gen immersion technology in Victoria in April 2021.

During their work terms, students are immediately integrated into the inclusive organizational culture at One Voice, wherein they join morning scrums, participate in sprint reviews, and retrospectives, all while receiving valuable mentorship and support.

"This support is even more important during a time when people are feeling disconnected and potentially even alienated from work and from others, and we applaud One Voice鈥檚 many incredible efforts toward positioning students to thrive and succeed in their various work-integrated learning opportunities,鈥 says Claudia.

The students'听work in these work terms have been primarily remote, yet very productive. One Voice conducts online 鈥淪print Reviews鈥 where staff report on the week鈥檚 tasks, goals, and accomplishments, and was an opportunity to provide important feedback and convey the message that everyone's contribution was important.

鈥淲e treasure the energy, curiosity, and creativity that our students bring to the table and reward it with an opportunity to try new things, learn new things, be challenged, overcome challenges, and to be heard,鈥 Rosanna Pittella, PhD, Director, One Voice. 鈥淲e don't care where the next best fabulous idea comes from - a student's voice is just as important and heard as any other at One Voice, and their ideas are often leveraged and incorporated in planning.鈥

The students worked alongside staff to participate in brainstorming sessions, needs assessments, roadmap construction and execution, whenever possible, while learning to be autonomous in their roles.

鈥淎s the Executive Management Assistant co-op student, I was given so many opportunities to expand my knowledge and explore new avenues,鈥 says Monica Nguyen, a Bachelor of Business Administration, Human Resources and听Leadership student. 鈥淚 am fortunate to gain experience in the Marketing field as well as utilizing NextGen technology to engage our community here on Vancouver Island and beyond. At One Voice, we are always challenged to do more; to step out of our comfort zone and learn.鈥

One Voice has also been very supportive of student鈥檚 careers by volunteering to help with Camosun鈥檚 various Mock Interview Clinics, and has continued to post work term opportunities for both the Winter 2021 and Summer 2021 terms.
