Jeremy Burgess and Shane Hartman have been appointed to the Board of Governors at AV资源 through an Order in Council appointment by the Lieutenant Governor. The appointments are effective Dec. 1, 2023, for a term ending July 31, 2025.
Jeremy Burgess
Jeremy Burgess is a Litigation Associate with Reed Pope Law Corporation. He practices corporate commercial litigation, focusing primarily on disputes concerning real property, construction, contracts and corporate matters.
After attending law school at the University of Victoria, Jeremy and his wife were thrilled to return to Vancouver Island in 2021. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, volleyball and working hard at the gym. Jeremy and his wife enjoy the natural beauty of Vancouver Island and embrace the dizzying number of opportunities the area presents for food and drink lovers.
Jeremy enjoys seeking out ways to become involved in his community and embraces the connection between his community and its educational institutions. Jeremy鈥檚 previous volunteer positions include being a community member of UBC-Okanagan鈥檚 Behavioral Research Ethics Board; a board member of the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission; a grant advisory committee member for the Central Okanagan Foundation; president, treasurer, secretary and director at large of the Kelowna Ultimate Players Society and president, past president, treasurer secretary and director at large of the Kelowna Bar Association.
Shane Hartman
Shane Hartman is a proud member of the Lhts'umusyoo (Beaver) Clan from the Nak鈥檃zdli First Nation as well as having Scottish and Swedish heritage. Shane has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in management, as well as a master鈥檚 degree in natural resources and environmental studies. For his master鈥檚 research, he looked at entrepreneurship and business development related to creating ecotourism ventures for a northern First Nation community.
Shane is also an accomplished artist and children鈥檚 book author. He wrote and illustrated a book for his daughter, which was published in 2020. He also used his business training and creativity to invent, create and bring to market a new golf short game practice system. Proceeds from sales go to his registered non-profit which helps Indigenous youth gain access to the game of golf, as well as learning about current education and employment resources available to them.
Shane has previously served on the Board of Governors for the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), as well as being elected as the president of the Graduate Student Society for UNBC. He has also served on the board of the Community Social Planning Council and currently serves on the board of the Moosehide Campaign Society.
