AV资源 Athletics is pleased to announce that alum Kate Service (Victoria, B.C./Parkland Secondary) will be joining the Chargers as head coach of the women鈥檚 basketball team starting for the 2023/24 season.
Service played two seasons at Camosun from 2013 to 2015. Kate began coaching youth basketball during her time at Camosun and has since been coaching with South Vancouver Island Basketball Association and at Parkland Secondary.
鈥淚 am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Camosun community again,鈥 says Service. 鈥淢y vision is well-aligned with the Chargers athletics program of creating an environment that will foster development and growth. I believe the fundamentals for cultivating that environment are curiosity, respect, and effort. I am a strong proponent of sport and how it can be a medium for developing life skills.鈥
鈥淲e are very excited that Kate will be our new women鈥檚 basketball head coach. As a local homegrown athlete and alumna of the Chargers Women鈥檚 Basketball Program, Kate brings a unique understanding of the student-athlete experience,鈥 says Scot Cuachon, Manager Athletics and Student Life. 鈥淐oaches hold a great and sacred trust 鈥 helping to mold character, instill principles and values, and provide a positive example to those they work with; The privilege of these responsibilities are ones that we have the utmost confidence of Kate excelling in.鈥
鈥淚 am excited to join a great group of student-athletes that are eager, athletic, and energetic,鈥 added Service. 鈥淚 look forward to developing connections and helping them reach their potential on and off the court.鈥
鈥淜ate鈥檚 athletic journey through high school, to here at Camosun, to the growth of her coaching practice, is as inspiring as it is admirable and we feel Kate is an outstanding representative in paving pathways for all people to pursue leadership in sport,鈥 furthered Cuachon.
This past season, the Camosun Chargers women鈥檚 basketball team finished third in the PACWEST regular season, and won a bronze medal at home during the championships. Service hope to improve their 10-8 record next season and push to be a championship contending team.
